Job description

We’re seeking a highly experienced Electronics Engineer who can take ownership of complex electronic system designs and play a major role in shaping the next generation of technology across a variety of engineered products. This position is aimed at someone who has spent years working with embedded systems, detailed circuit development, and end-to-end product engineering—from early concept work all the way through to stable, high-volume manufacture.

In this role, you’ll become the key technical reference point within the electronics discipline. You’ll drive improvements, challenge assumptions, review work produced by other engineers, and help resolve the most difficult design and performance issues. The ideal person brings strong analytical ability, enjoys solving challenging problems, and is confident guiding projects that must meet demanding reliability, performance, and commercial objectives.

This is a chance to influence the future direction of product architecture, support the development of the wider engineering function, and help ensure robust and carefully engineered electronic solutions transition into production without surprises.

Primary Duties

  • Take responsibility for the full lifecycle of electronic hardware development—from early feasibility and architectural decisions through to release for manufacturing.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering teams to ensure all requirements are understood, validated, and delivered throughout the project.
  • Provide senior-level support when technical hurdles arise, whether related to prototypes, evolving specifications, or unforeseen design behaviours.
  • Offer guidance and oversight to less experienced engineers, running design reviews, supporting troubleshooting, and helping with technical growth.
  • Define, review, and approve test strategies for electronics, including considerations around EMC behaviour, signal integrity, and validation coverage.
  • Research emerging technologies and contribute ideas that enhance development quality, speed, or efficiency.
  • Present technical and project updates to internal stakeholders, summarising risks, progress, key decisions, and mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain and review technical documentation such as schematics, component lists, simulations, verification data, and compliance evidence.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners on component choices, prototype assemblies, and production issues.
  • Analyse legacy designs and feed lessons learned into new development schemes.
  • Support cost-driven decision making, including component trade-offs and tooling considerations.
  • Contribute to project planning and help estimate effort and timelines for electronic development activities.

Required Background

  • Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering (or similar) plus at least five years of commercial experience, or extensive professional experience totalling ten years or more.
  • Significant hands-on experience designing circuits, developing embedded hardware, and transferring designs into production environments.
  • History of delivering engineered solutions that meet strict time, cost, and quality goals.
  • Proficient with PCB layout tools and electronic simulation software.
  • Strong capability in EMC verification, design validation, and diagnosing hardware failures at a detailed component level.
  • Experience guiding or supporting other engineers in a technical or mentoring capacity.
  • Proven ability to deliver robust designs with a strong emphasis on getting things right the first time.

Beneficial Experience

  • Familiarity with contract manufacturers, PCB assembly houses, or outsourced production.
  • Good understanding of designing for EMC, ESD, and electrically noisy operational environments.
  • Competence in practical build and test activities such as SMD soldering, test equipment operation, and prototype assembly.
  • Experience leading engineering work packages or managing technical teams.
  • Ability to generate ideas, work independently on complex problems, and deliver practical, well-considered solutions.
