2 x MySQL DBA's required for 6 month initial project in Cardiff (can be fully remote but with one day p/month onsite ideally)

We're hiring a Senior Database Administrator for a Cardiff-based Engineering team. As a key player in our collaborative and innovative environment, you'll need expert proficiency in database administration and design. Working closely with Development, QA, IT Operations, and Customer Operations teams, you'll provide top-notch business solutions and actively contribute to projects from start to finish. You'll thrive in a fast-paced setting, handle effective communication and problem-solving, and adapt to DevOps practices and agile support.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex database issues, collaborating with diverse technical and non-technical teams.
  • Create and maintain DBA documentation for various audiences and train junior staff on occasion.
  • Install new database infrastructure, ensure stability, and handle security updates and major version upgrades.
  • Participate in On-Call rotation for off-peak hours and cover out-of-hours maintenance activities when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Professional experience supporting RDBMS products like MySQL in an enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on experience in public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and associated DBaaS technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot database infrastructure issues, implement fixes, and optimize performance.
  • Proficiency in enterprise database monitoring, metric development, and maintenance.
  • Track record of researching new database technologies, leading projects, and providing technical expertise.
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation), change control procedures, and Log Management tools.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise-level networking (TCP/IP, VPNs, Firewalls) and public cloud services (compute, storage, security).
  • System administration skills in Linux/Windows and experience with system and application monitoring tools (Nagios, Cloudwatch, Grafana).
