Security Engineer
Bristol / Remote (Hybrid Available) Up to £80,000 + Benefits
We're recruiting for an experienced Security Engineer to join a critical infrastructure organisation undergoing significant investment in its cyber security capabilities. This is a hands-on role within a growing cyber function, focused on protecting a highly regulated environment spanning enterprise IT, cloud platforms, and operational technology (OT).
This opportunity would suit a security professional who enjoys combining technical delivery, security engineering, threat detection, vulnerability management, and identity security within a modern Microsoft ecosystem.
The Role
As a Security Engineer, you'll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the organisation's security operations capability, helping to identify, prevent, and respond to cyber threats across business-critical systems.
You'll work closely with technology and operational teams to implement and improve security controls, contribute to cyber resilience initiatives, and support compliance with recognised security frameworks and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance cyber threat monitoring, detection, and incident response capabilities.
- Implement, maintain and continuously improve security controls across users, infrastructure, cloud services, applications and OT environments.
- Manage and secure identity and access management solutions, including Microsoft Entra ID and privileged access controls.
- Support the deployment and ongoing management of vulnerability scanning and remediation programmes.
- Act as a technical subject matter expert for security technologies and products.
- Collaborate with technology, operational and business stakeholders to improve overall cyber resilience.
- Provide security assurance and consultancy support to technology projects and programmes.
- Contribute towards security governance, audits and control assessments.
- Support and mentor colleagues within the cyber security team.
Technology Environment
You'll be working within a predominantly Microsoft-focused environment, including:
- Microsoft Defender Suite
- Microsoft Sentinel
- Microsoft Purview
- Microsoft Entra ID
- Azure
- Microsoft Fabric
- Vulnerability management platforms such as Tenable and Intruder
- Operational Technology (OT) environments and industrial systems
We're interested in speaking with candidates who can demonstrate:
- Proven experience in a Security Engineer, Cyber Security Engineer or similar role.
- Strong experience securing Microsoft cloud and enterprise environments.
- Expertise across Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, Entra ID and Azure security technologies.
- Experience implementing vulnerability management and security monitoring solutions.
- Strong understanding of security frameworks such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF and CIS Controls.
- Previous infrastructure, systems administration or engineering experience.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Experience working within regulated or critical infrastructure environments would be advantageous.
